Below are the requirements that must be met in order to pass out of the particular swim level.

Parent Tot

Parent/babysitter is expected to be in the water everyday. On a class-by-class basis this is subject to change depending on class size.

  • Water entry/exit
  • Beginner splashing
  • Blowing bubbles
  • Submerging
  • Kicking
  • Jumping
  • Floating
  • Listening to directions

3 to 4 year olds

  • Water entry/exit
  • Beginner splashing
  • Blowing bubbles
  • Kicking
  • Reaching and pulling
  • Jumping
  • Floating (assisted)
  • Listening to direction

Level 1

  • Front float (assisted)
  • Back float (assisted)
  • Bubble blowing
  • Exit using ladder/side
  • 5 bobs
  • Monkey along wall
  • Kicking on front (assisted)
  • Kicking on back (assisted)
  • Scooping with arms
  • Hold breath 3 seconds (face in)
  • Review pool rules
  • Know ways to get help

Level 2

  • Front float/glide (unassisted)
  • Back float/glide (unassisted)
  • Kick on front (unassisted)
  • Kick on back (unassisted)
  • Front crawl (no breath, 10 feet)
  • Back crawl (10 feet)
  • Pick up rings off bottom
  • Jump into deep water (unassisted)
  • Tread water (30 seconds)
  • Hold breath (5 seconds)
  • Level off
  • 10 bobs
  • Turn over (both directions)
  • Use PFD
  • Demo rescue breathing

Level 3

  • Front crawl (breathing, 15 yards)
  • Back crawl (15 yards)
  • Tread water (2 minutes)
  • Streamline kick past flags
  • Open airway for rescue breathing
  • Jump into deep water
  • 15 bobs
  • Kneeling dive
  • Jump with PFD
  • Learn diving rules

Level 4

  • Front crawl (25 yards)
  • Back crawl (25 yards)
  • Elementary back (10 yards)
  • Dolphin kick past flags
  • Sculling on front and back
  • Intro to turns at wall
  • Perform rescue breathing
  • Intro breaststroke
  • Into butterfly
  • Tread water (5 minutes)
  • Survival float (5 minutes)
  • Standing dive
  • Jump from board with PFD
  • Observe CPR

Level 5

  • Front crawl (50 yards)
  • Back crawl (50 yards)
  • Breaststroke (10 yards)
  • Butterfly (15 yards)
  • Elementary Back (25 yards)
  • Sidestroke (10 yards)
  • Streamline kick past flags
  • Underwater swim (3 body lengths)
  • Review rescue breathing and CPR
  • 100 yard IM (individual medley)
  • Tread water (10 minutes)
  • Survival float (10 minutes)
  • Flip turn
  • Open turn
  • Long shallow dive
  • Racing start from block

Level 6

  • Front crawl (100 yards)

  • 500 yard swim
  • 200 yard IM (individual medley)
  • Tread water (12 minutes)
  • Underwater swim (15 yards)
  • Check heart rate
  • Review BWS skills

Basic Water Safety (BWS)

  • 500 yard Swim
  • Head up breaststroke (50 yards)
  • Head up front crawl (50 yards)
  • Tread water (15 minutes)
  • Survival float (10 minutes)
  • HELP and huddle position
  • Retrieve brick from diving well
  • Turn clothes into floatation devices
  • Identify different types of victims
  • Throwing rescue
  • Reaching rescue
  • Active drowning save
