Swim and Dive Lesson Curriculum
Parent-Tot:
Water entry/exit; beginner splashing; blowing bubbles; submerging with assist; kicking with assist; jumping with assist; floating with assist; listen to directions.
3/4 Olds:
Water entry/exit; beginner splashing; blowing bubbles; kicking with assist; reaching/pulling; jumping with assist; front float with assist; back float with assist; listen to directions.
Level 1:
Front float with assist; back float with assist; bubble blowing; exit using ladder; bobbs; monkey along wall of pool; kicking on front with assist; kicking on back with assist; scooping with arms; hold breath for 3 seconds in water; review pool/safety rules; know ways to get help.
Level 2:
STROKE TECHNIQUE: Front float/glide; back float/glide; front kick; back kick; front crawl 10 feet (arms/legs); back crawl 10 feet; pick rings off bottom of pool; jump into deep water unassisted; tread water (30 seconds); hold breath (5 seconds); level off from jumping in; bobbs; turn over in both directions; personal flotation device use; demonstrate rescue breathing and chest compressions.
Level 3:
STROKE TECHNIQUE: Front crawl 15 yards (with breathing); back crawl 15 yards; tread water for 2 minutes; streamline kick past flags; demonstrate rescue breathing and chest compressions; jump into deep water; bobbs; kneeling dive; jump with personal flotation device; review diving rules.
Level 4:
STROKE TECHNIQUE: Front crawl 25 yards; back crawl 25 yards; elementary back strone 10 yards; dolphin kick; sculling front/back; open turns introduction; demonstrate rescue breathing and chest compressions; introduction to breaststroke; introduction to butterfly; tread water for 5 minutes; survival float for 5 minutes; standing dive; jump from diving board with personal flotation device.
Level 5:
STROKE REFINEMENT/TECHNIQUE: Front crawl for 50 yards; back crawl for 50 yards; breaststroke for 10 yards; butterfly for 15 yards; elementary back stroke for 25 yards; sidestroke for 10 yards; streamline kick; underwater swim for 3 body lengths; chest compressions; tread water for 10 minutes; survivial float; flip turn; open turn; long shallow dive; racing start from blocks.
Level 6:
STROKE REFINEMENT/TECHNIQUE: Front crawl for 100 yards; back crawl for 100 yards; breaststroke 25 yards; butterfly for 15 yards; sidestroke 25 yards; inverted side stroke; into trudgen crawl; tread water for 12 minutes; chest compressions; open turn breaststroke/butterfly; free/back flip turn introduction; 100 IM.
Level 7:
STROKE REFINEMENT/TECHNIQUE: Front crawl 200 yards; back crawl 200 yards; breaststroke 50 yards; butterfly 25 yards; sidestroke 50 yards; inverted sidestroke; 25 yards kicking with fins - no breathing; retrive brick from bottom of dive-well; chest compressions; 200 IM; 500 yards continuous swimming; tread water 15 minutes; underwater swim 15-25 yards; trudgen crawl; pike surface dive; tuck surface dive; stride jump.
Basic Water Safety (BWS):
Survival float; back float with scull and kick; tread water 15 minutes; bobbing; cramp release; clothing swim; clothing inflation; hip/shoulder support rescue; assist reaching in water and out; throwing rescue device; wading rescue; huddle position; chest compression/rescue breathing.
